Rail Re-gauging Works Skew Bridge

Following an extended period of monitoring of the track transition slabs either side of a skew bridge near Wilkinson Street depot, it was decided that no further movement was occurring and that the track misalignment on the Southbound tram line could be corrected.
Neary Rail first surveyed the site to establish the existing rail position and gauge, before returning on 3.5 hour midweek nights to break out the holding down bolts for each rail baseplate and reset them into the design position. A specialist rapid set epoxy resin was used to fix the holding down bolts in the concrete transition slabs with a cementitious rapid set grout used beneath each baseplate once levelled.
To minimise any risk of a worksite overrun only 1 or 2 baseplates were broken out and re-positioned each night, with the 6ft rail being completed first. The cess rail was then gauged and aligned off the 6ft rail, leaving Nottingham Trams with a much improved track alignment over the bridge.
