Rufford Culvert Brickwork Repairs

During early 2015 Neary Rail undertook brickwork repairs to Rufford Culvert on the Ormskirk Line in Lancashire.

External works included brickwork repairs to both headwalls, removing all vegetation and benching the embankments. The East Headwall was rebuilt from springer level upwards with the West headwall being repointed and part rebuilt.
Internally the culvert was cleared of silt and a number of cracks in the arch and walls pinned and grouted. A transverse crack in the arch required a flexible rubber expansion joint fitting before a 2m3 void was filled with grout.
On completion granular fill and topsoil was placed on both embankments.

OWLD CONSENT
Neary Rail produced the water flow and pumping calculations, and proposed the environmental control measures in accordance with EA guidelines, before applying for the OWLD Consent. Once the consent was in place, Neary Rail undertook the temporary works design for the dams, installed the two water filled dams and managed the over pumping and dewatering of the culvert.
