Ambergate Station Access Works

B&K Property Services engaged Neary Rail to undertake access improvement works at East Midland Trains, Ambergate Station in Derbyshire.

The works comprised pavement, drainage, access road, embankment and step improvements.

A 150m section of the sandstone kerbs were replaced and the pavements reconstructed and surfaced. 2 new gulleys were installed at the bottom of the station approach road, before the 1100m2 of wearing course was planed off, a new wearing course laid and new road markings applied.

A new DNO cabinet hardstanding was installed with key clamp handrails.

Approximately 200t of spoil was removed from site to reprofile the banking behind the pavement.

The original concrete steps were broken up and removed from site, before 3 new concrete foundations, a new brick retaining wall and sockets for new pavement hand railing was installed.
B&K Property Services installed a bespoke steel staircase onto the concrete foundations with Neary Rail installing the tactile pavings and surfacing to top and bottom landings.

Throughout the works Neary Rail worked closely with B&K Property Services to ensure that safe vehicular and pedestrian access was maintained throughout the 6 week programme. This proved to be the biggest logistical challenge on the narrow, steep approach road.
