Metrolink Phase 1 Troughing Refurbishment

Working for Metrolink RATP Dev Ltd, Neary Rail refurbished the S&T troughing route on the Phase 1 Bury and Altrincham Metrolink lines.

11km of de-veg and 5.2km of ballast clearance works were required to uncover the 30km long cable route before the route could be fully cleared out and all ducts, URXs and UTX's proved. Where the route was at capacity or where it could not be proved, 800m of new bypass routes were installed. Raised route was installed where there was insufficient space to install a secondary bypass route. Short lengths of ballast board retainers were installed to keep spoil off the route and over 3000 replacement lids were also fitted.

At platforms over 780m of new cable tray was fitted to the platforms and new buried ducts installed into the Station Equipment Rooms. Where required platform upstands were core drilled to link the cable try into the ducting.

All works had to be completed ahead of the TfGM TMS installation programme which initially meant mobilising and completing the first 7km section within only 5 weeks.
