Division | Construction

The works, undertaken between Sept 2008 and Aug 2009, comprised of the installation of approximately 750 metres of pre-cast concrete troughs to facilitate the installation of 3000 metres of cable.

The troughs carried both 132kv and 275kv cables over seven individual circuits, each running from an OSE termination to a GIS termination. Cable ends were pulled into position at the sealing ends using both scaffold / chain hoist method and crane lifts.

All excavation and installation works for both troughs and cable were carried out under both outage and non-outage periods meaning methods had to be modified to suit the working environment to ensure all works were carried out safely and efficiently while at the same time meeting National Grids strict safety rules. This project enabled us to develop a healthy working relationship with the South West Alliance, which proved very valuable in securing the Swansea project which followed.
