Blyth 400kV Substation

Client | Areva (for National Grid)

Division | Construction

Entailed the construction of three new MSC areas within the live high voltage compound at the old Blyth Power Station site.

In order to provide enough space within the substation for the new equipment the demolition of numerous existing foundations and structures was undertaken. This was followed by the construction of new reinforced concrete foundations, the installation of pre-cast multicore troughing routes, excavations for underground earthing, the supply and installation of fencing to the MSC areas, the installation of compound lighting, final grouting of all structure base plates, the reinstatement of substation surface dressing and the provision and installation of a new SF6 tank with associated drainage and alarm connections.

In addition to the main works a section of existing multicore troughing was strengthened over a length of 105m to sustain vehicular access.
