Acting as Principal Contractor Neary undertook design, supply and Installation of the grid connection for Todmorden wind farm.

Neary undertook every aspect of the works required to construct the contestable grid connection for the 8 turbine wind farm with a capacity of up to 20mW 21MVA to allow for the maximum turbine generation of 2.5mW per WTG.

The network connection was enabled with the installation of a 6.1km 33kV line from the wind farm to the nearest local POC, the Todmorden 33 to 11kV Primary Substation. After consultation with the client and our suppliers Neary Construction designed a 33kV connection consisting of 3No 33kV 500mm2 cables , laid in a ducted system in trefoil.

The contestable connection route was through a mixture of terrain including open moorland with a number of environmental constraints in place to protect wildlife such as ground nesting birds, and urban highways where traffic management was required to ensure the safety of Neary Construction teams and the general public.
