The project involved preparing and painting 185 OLE stanchions on Manchester Metrolink, using ST3 preparation with single coat paint system. The stanchions varied from single poles, portal frames and lattice type structures, with approximately 20 different types requiring painting. The 185 stanchions were spread over 8km between Manchester and Altrincham.
The majority of the works were undertaken on 2.5 to 3 hour midweek night possession / isolations working Sunday night through to Thursday night. High level access via MEWPs, tower scaffolds and industrial rope access. Agreement was reached with Metrolink to undertake low level works within separated green zones on days.
Neary Rail provided all safety critical staff, all isolations and worksites, all site management and oversaw all QA aspects. Neary Rail undertook all de-veg works using in house staff in advance of the painting, which required a full time de-veg gang for over 6 weeks. Two RISQS approved painting sub-contractors were used with works split up into 5 packages. The geographical packages ran concurrently with Neary Rail managing multiple worksites each night.
Works took place from August to October 2015 and in August and September 2016.
