Traction Bonding Installation

Following the installation of the TMS signalling system on the Metrolink Altrincham Line, Neary Rail secured the contract to remove all redundant impedence bonds, install new traction bonds and renew the traction return cabling to the sub-stations on a 10km section.
Neary Rail first carried out an initial site survey to verify the design and enable all bonds to be made up in advance of the installation works.
In total 210 new bonds were installed, 42 impedence bonds removed and 8 traction return cables and busbars replaced.
All works were carried out in house by Neary Rail over a series of midweek nights. Neary provided all worksites and isolations, whilst closely liaising with MRDL to ensure that worksite and HV switcher requirements at the sub-stations were planned in advance.
On completion, the waste oil from the recovered impedence bonds was drained and recycled, before the bonds were sent to a specialist electrical equipment recycler.
