Metrolink Track Renewals

Following the successful delivery of a number of diverse projects for them in 2014, Metrolink engaged Neary Rail as Principal Contractor to deliver 4 x track renewal and re-railing schemes.

QUEENS ROAD JUNCTION S&C RENEWAL
Over a 52 hour weekend in October 2014, a CV crossover and turnout was reballasted and renewed. Works involved renewing 3 x half sets, 2 x common crossings, all gut and closure rails, 80 hardwood timbers and approximately 30 spot sleepers. The S&C units were prebuilt, drilled and gauged off site in advance of the works then stripped before being built back up in the 52 hour possession.

BURY LOCO JUNCTION S&C AND PLAIN LINE TRACK RENEWAL
Over a 2nd 52 hour weekend in October 2014, a new concrete CV turnout was installed at Bury Loco Junction plus approximately 150m of plain line track renewed with new CEN56 rail on serviceable F27 sleepers. All welding and stressing was completed in the 52 hour weekend.

SMEDLEY ROAD RERAILING
On 3.5 midweek night possessions in November and December 2014, Neary Rail re-railed 160m of rail, changed 40 timber sleepers and relocated and replaced an adjustment switch adjacent to Queens Road Junction.

TRAFFORD INBOUND RERAILING
Over a 52 hour possession in March 2015, 3 sections of track were rerailed between the S&C at Trafford Depot. In total 1400m of rail was installed, 25 timber sleepers changed within Trafford Bar platforms and a bridge deck reballasted and resleepered with 37 new hardwood sleepers. Neary Rail widened and levelled Old Trafford access point ahead of the works to enable the rails to be welded up into 91 and 109m strings. The rails strings were moved to site using RRVs at the start of the possession. All welding and Level 3 stressing was completed in the 52 hour weekend.
