WCML UTX Installation

Neary Rail recently installed two new UTX's on the West Coast Mainline at Warrington and Preston as part of the current 650v Signal Power Distribution Cable Renewals project for LNW Works Delivery in Preston.

Neary Rail had previously installed five UTX's as part of the original 650v power cable renewal project in 2008-2009 so was pleased to secure the latest UTX's on this project.

The Warrington UTX was installed over 2 consecutive Saturday night shifts under two Goods lines at Warrington Bank Quay Station. One of the UTX chambers had to be installed in a very tight 10ft location between an existing brick chamber, points motor unit, double troughing route and the sleeper ends of the Down Passenger Loop.

The Preston UTX was installed over a Saturday night shift and completed during a midweek dayshift possession. This UTX passed under the Preston Docks Branch line at Preston Station.
At both sites Neary Rail undertook the track handback and track monitoring.

Neary Rail have installed numerous open cut UTXs for Network Rail over the past 10 years including 14 on Preston area alone. We also have experience of installing UTXs using directional drilling, having installed a UTX under 5 open lines on the WCML at Euxton Junction using this method.
