Staythorpe Heavy Lift Facility

Client | Hyundai Heavy Industries

Division | Construction

This contract necessitated the Project Management of a heavy lift and the subsequent road movement of a 400kV transformer off the River Trent to National Grid Staythorpe substation.

The Hyundai transformer had travelled by sea from Korea to Hull where it was then loaded onto an Inland Navigator vessel. It then set sail down the Rivers Ouse and Trent until it reached its disembarking position at the Heavy Lift Facility within the boundary of RWE Staythorpe Power Station.

Our scope was to oversee the final delivery of the transformer in the role of Principal Contractor under CDM. Procedures were implemented to ensure that all the temporary works required to transport, site, erect, lift and disassemble the 1000 tonne crane used for the lift were put in place as well as vetting and approving all the Method Statements and Risk Assessments (in line with National Grid procedures) used throughout the works.

The load (of the TX) was 200 tonnes and was lifted at a radius of 38m.
