Due to a third party 132kV cable strike on the main 125mph rail line at Hams Hall near Cannock there was a necessity to install a new duct run underneath both the inward and outward tracks.
Jointbays were constructed either side of the main line in order to re-joint the damaged cable.
As the line was running at 125mph all works had to take place at night during full possessions.
Over several weekends a trench was excavated utilising rail going plant and a suitable duct installed beneath them. When completely across the Network Rail land a new 132kV oil filled cable was installed in the duct and the repair effected.
The duct was then filled with a bentonite slurry mixture to aid the heat loss of the cable during operation.
