Abergele Transition RC Joint Bays

Client | Prysmian

Division | Construction

As part of the main Gwynt-y-Mor wind farm landfall EHV cable works four reinforced concrete joint bays were required to be constructed at the Beach Head off Abergele.

As the whole of the construction process took place on the beach, the presence of tidal water impacted significantly on the installation process. In order to restrict the constant ingress of water a cofferdam was installed to the footprint encompassing the four individual bays.

This then allowed the erection of formwork / rebar and the pouring of concrete in relatively dry conditions.

The four bays have been designed to be buried underground; when the jointing of the marine cable to the land cable has taken place purpose cast RC lids will span the bays allowing the stockpiled material to be spread over them, thus returning the landscape to its existing profile and appearance.
