Boothen Transformer Repairs

Client | Siemens (Ultimate Client : Central Networks)

Division | Construction

Due to faults occurring on two Grid Transformers it was necessary to remove the roof and knockout front wall panels from two of the four transformer complexes on site. The works involved the careful dismantling of the noise enclosure roof to the transformer whilst the remainder of the site remained live. The transformers were removed in turn and taken away to necessitate a factory repair (by others).

Whilst the transformers were off site each bund was modified around the HV cable pit to create a fluid tight chimney structure to prevent the loss of oil from the bund via the cable entries.

Extensive jointing was also carried out to the 33kV and 11kV terminations and switchboards.

After the return of the transformers to their respective bunds the knockout wall and roof were re-constructed to their original state before the transformers were returned to service.
