Lower Lea Valley Cable Power Lines Undergrounding

Client | Prysmian (for National Grid)

Division | Construction

In order to provide access for the construction of the Olympic village in the East End of London a section of existing power line was undergrounded via two new tunnels bored between West Ham 400kV substation and Hackney 275kV substation.

Neary Construction then provided the high voltage cable interface between the new tunnel access shafts and the termination points within the live HV compounds.

Activities included the construction of a 1.8m deep cast in-situ reinforced concrete trough capable of housing the new 275kV power cables, the demolition of existing high level strain gantries within the live compound at West Ham and the extensive diversion of existing drainage routes to provide access for the new equipment.
