In October 2010, works began on the Gwynt y Mor windfarm 132kV onshore connection near Abergele in North Wales. The works are being undertaken for RWE Npower Renewables Ltd by Prysmian Cables who have appointed Neary Construction as their civils and cable installation contractor.
An unexpected explosion within a Gas Compression High Voltage cable circuit resulted in the requirement for extensive excavations within a tow path on the Birmingham & Fazeley Canal.
The works required the excavation of two cable jointbays whilst maintaining access for the public along the tow path of the canal.
The works involved the construction of a new reinforced transformer bund and new cable ducted routes within the confines of a very tight working area within the grounds of the main Mansfield Police headquarters.
Although the works were severely hampered during the heavy snow falls at the start of 2011 all works were completed on programme and to budget.
Due to faults occurring on two Grid Transformers it was necessary to remove the roof and knockout front wall panels from two of the four transformer complexes on site. The works involved the careful dismantling of the noise enclosure roof to the transformer whilst the remainder of the site remained live.
The works involved the removal of an existing 132kV Transformer (by others) and then our subsequent excavations and core drilling in to deep bedrock. The rock slopes were then retained with a specialist Rock Netting system to ensure the integrity of the equipment at the foot of the slope.
Neary Rail is pleased to confirm the successful completion and handover of the Ayrshire LLPA Project to its main contractor Babcock Rail. This was a 6 month contract which involved installing the routeworks and cabling associated with the new public announcement systems at 37 stations throughout the Ayrshire region.
